In 1842, carpenter and contractor Piet van Thiel started a nail factory in Beek and Donk, where the nails were made by hand. In 1852 the two younger brothers of Piet van Thiel also step into the nail factory, which goes under the name Gebroeders Van Thiel Beek and Donk.
In 1860 one finds a machine in Paris on which nails can be made. Piet van Thiel also invests in these machines and the hand making of nail production is closed.
In 1872 the two brothers stepped out of the business and Piet van Thiel went on independently. In 1880 the three sons of Piet van Thiel step into the business. At the beginning of the 20th century the product range was expanded with wire, galvanized wire, barbed wire, chicken wire and harmonica wire.
In 1967 the company was renamed Thibo Draad- en Bouwstaalprodukten B.V. Investments are then made in various machines for spot-welded wire mesh. In the seventies the Van Thiel family sells its last shares and the company is wholly owned by Hoogovens.
In 1987 the production of building steel mats was split off and the company continued under the name Thibodraad. Thibodraad specializes further in the production of wire nails and spot weld gauze.
In 1993 the trading company Zwijsen Draadservice is taken over.
